Here's Your Sign
In case you needed proof that comedy was taking over rodeo week
Bill Engvall will preview "15 Degrees Off Cool," a new comedy album coming in February, with next week's shows at The Orleans.
| They rule National Finals Rodeo week. And as long as they can still conquer while divided, there's no rush for the four kings of Blue Collar Comedy to unite on the same stage. Not that Bill Engvall hasn't brought it up. "I'd love to see the four of us get together and do four nights during the NFR. Can you imagine?" he says in his friendly Texas lilt. Maybe even billed as "one last time together," he adds. "Don't think I haven't pitched that to our management." Maybe next year. This time, Jeff Foxworthy and Larry the Cable Guy are doing their own shows at the Orleans Arena, while Engvall and Ron White are staying busy with multiple shows during rodeo week. White returns to Mandalay Bay for two shows Dec. 9, while Engvall plays The Orleans Wednesday through Dec. 9. "Eventually it will get to the point where everybody will realize the sum is bigger than the parts," he says. "Right now the parts are all doing real well." Since the first Blue Collar Comedy Tour in 2000, the four stand-ups have elbowed aside some of the country singers who once made Las Vegas a country festival serving as a parallel draw to the actual rodeo. Engvall crashed Larry's arena stage last year. "That kid is doing rock star business," he says, and his show is "about as close to a rock concert as (a comedian) can get." But despite their fame, he believes audiences pick up on the fact that "we're just normal guys who realize we got really lucky," Engvall says. That's why you might see him out in the casino after the show. "Why am I going to be the guy who just goes to his hotel room now?" Though he admits "the paycheck is nice" for an arena date, "my act is more geared to a theater-type audience." While Larry knocks 'em down with one-liners, Engvall's more reality-based suburban comedy thrives in extended monologues. A new routine about flying with the Thunderbirds runs 20 minutes. "Comedy can get too big," he says. "One of the most integral parts of stand-up is that intimacy. You can see facial expressions. You're in on the show." Still, the 49-year-old comedian says he would be lying if he claimed not to enjoy the success that came after years as a struggling actor and club-level comic. "There is something really cool about seeing your name in big letters. I'm gonna tell you something, brother. I can remember playing Vegas when the roast beef buffet and 99-cent shrimp cocktail had bigger billing than I did." Engvall worked the Improv comedy club at the Riviera in the 1980s, years before the 1996 comedy album "Here's Your Sign" pushed his signature routine into bigger stardom. During a week in which he would do 21 sets in seven nights, "My wife would give me a hundred bucks for the week. That was for eating, drinking and gambling. I spent a lot of time on the nickel machines." He worked the Sahara as a rodeo-week headliner in his own right in 1998, and the Blue Collar tour two years later started out as a joke with the slightly-more-famous Foxworthy: "Maybe at the end of our careers, we'd go out together like Paul Revere and the Raiders and the Turtles." The talk became more serious, and when the two recruited White and Larry for the first 10 dates, fans picked up on the fact that they were all friends and "it just clicked. It was amazing." The franchise grew to include concert films, a TV series, a satellite radio channel and even toy dolls. "That's just bizarre," Engvall says of the latter. For now, the quartet has decided to leave this year's "One for the Road" DVD as their final project for the indefinite future. "For all intents and purposes, we figure that vein has been mined and we're gonna move on," White noted before a Las Vegas show in May. There are still spinoff projects, such as Engvall and Larry filming a movie comedy, "The Delta Farce," due next May. Engvall spent this week in California, casting a pilot for a sitcom in which he will play a family therapist who gives people "the advice they don't really want to hear." TBS fast-tracked the project to film in January. The comedian believes it struck a chord with the cable channel because of his "theory on life that we need to go back to being simple. We've gotten so complex, we've forgotten how to just live life." "One of the comments I get when I'm on the road is, 'It's like you've got a camera in our house.' And I think television has got away from that. Everything's so young and hip. I don't know a neighborhood like 'Desperate Housewives.' " If you waited for the weekend to jump into National Finals Rodeo-related fun, you're late. This is the first year the rodeo has started on a Thursday instead of a Friday, to fulfill its organizers' longtime wish to wrap things up on a Saturday instead of a Sunday. Here's a quick guide to rodeo-related acts: Gary Allan -- The California singer keeps the Bakersfield sound alive in shows with Jack Ingram today and Saturday at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay. Rodney Atkins -- "If You're Goin' Through Hell," the Tennessee singer will sympathize today and Saturday at Santa Fe Station. Big & Rich -- "Bareback," the topless revue full of Big & Rich music, didn't survive until rodeo week, but the duo play their stomping barroom anthems live today through Sunday at the Las Vegas Hilton. Brooks & Dunn -- It wouldn't be rodeo week without country's venerable duo, at the Las Vegas Hilton Monday through Wednesday. But if it's a busy week for you, they'll be back at the Hilton at least twice next year. Steve Holy -- The Texas singer seeks a "Brand New Girlfriend" today and Saturday at Boulder Station. Larry the Cable Guy -- Country's comic sage considers it done Saturday at the Orleans Arena. Randy Travis -- He traveled a 20-year road from "new traditionalist" to country veteran, but the voice remains unchanged today through Sunday at the Golden Nugget. Tanya Tucker -- The former wild gal who grew up on the fringes of Las Vegas settles in at the Golden Nugget Monday through Wednesday. Uncle Kracker, Shooter Jennings -- From the Kid Rock school of country, it will be good drinkin' with Rock's sidekick and Waylon's son at the Hard Rock Hotel today. The rodeo's second weekend brings Vince Gill with a large band and sprawling new CD set to the Las Vegas Hilton, Thursday through Dec. 9. Comic relief comes from Jeff Foxworthy at the Orleans Arena on Dec. 9, Ron White at Mandalay Bay on Dec. 9 and Rodney Carrington at the Luxor, Thursday through Dec. 9. Perennial rodeo favorite Clay Walker closes out the week at the Golden Nugget Thursday through Saturday. Another old-timer from the early '90s, Tracy Lawrence, plays Boulder Station Dec. 8-9. And rodeo fans who steer to the suburbs can find Glen Campbell and Debby Campbell at the Suncoast Thursday through Dec. 10. __________________

| This Holiday Weekend in Las Vegas
| | Okay, it's Christmas and as everyone gears up for the madness that is New Year's Eve, even Las Vegas is experiencing a moment of domesticity and calmness this weekend (aside from in the shopping malls, of course, where insanity reins). Still, if you have any time out from the last-minute festive frenzy, there are plenty of things to do. All the festive happenings we listed last week continue (just scroll down), from ice skating at the Hard Rock to Nevada Ballet Theatre's Nutcracker. Some of the other highlights include: - The Beach Boys headlining at the Luxor (12/25-21/31)
- The Findlay Toyota Las Vegas Classic basketball tournament takes place at the Orleans (12/22-12/23)
- The Las Vegas Hilton hosts the Shaolin Kung Fu Show (12/22-12/24)
- Revolution, the new interactive Beatles-themed ultralounge at Mirage is opening its doors to the public (12/22)
- And the Neon Museum opens up the Neon Boneyard for its once-a-year only free guided tours from 10 am-4 pm (12/23)
| Santa at Shark Reef
| | Through December 24, from 10 am-4 pm daily, Santa will be hanging out at Shark Reef (Mandalay Bay) and accepting last minute wishes from children aged 12 and under. With each paid admission, kids will receive a complimentary photo with Santa and a candy cane.

Jim Belushi to Host Opening Night at WSA Concert in Las Vegas on Feb 1
Jim Belushi, popular movie actor and star of ABC's successful sitcom "According to Jim," has agreed to act as Master of Ceremonies for the Opening Night at WSA Concert in Las Vegas, an event benefiting Soles4Souls Inc. and the Two Ten Footwear Foundation. The private concert is open for attendees of the semi-annual WSA Show, the world's largest footwear and accessories marketplace. The concert will be held on Thursday, February 1st at 6:30 and features six Hall of Fame rock and roll acts, including Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley, Mary Wilson and Booker T. & The MGs. "We are delighted that Jim Belushi has agreed to be our Master of Ceremonies for the Opening Night at WSA Concert," said Wayne Elsey, Founder of Soles4Souls and President of Kodiak-Terra, USA Inc. "He is a perfect choice to emcee the concert because he will entertain the concert goers while bringing more awareness to the mission of Soles4Souls and the Two Ten Footwear Foundation," he said. In honor of Brown's memory, Soles4Souls has agreed to donate 100,000 pairs of shoes to African countries. The footwear will be delivered during 2007 on several international relief trips. | This (NBA) Weekend in Vegas
| | In the light of the complete NBA All-Star invasion that's already begun, we are dedicating this weekend's listing solely to related events. | Von Teese to Guest at MGM
| | From April 15-20, international Queen of Burlesque Dita Von Teese will be appearing in a series of exclusive performances MGM Grand's Crazy Horse Paris production. The performances are one of many events lined up to celebrate the recent name change from La Femme.
Dita Von Teese From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Dita Von Teese (born Heather Renée Sweet on September 28, 1972) is a popular American burlesque artist, model and actress. [edit] Biography Dita Von Teese was born in Rochester, Michigan and raised in a historic, antique filled home. Her mother was a manicurist and her father was a machinist. Her fascination with 1940s cinema and classic retro style began at a young age and was fostered by her mother, who would buy clothes for Dita to dress up in. Her mother was a fan of old, Golden-era Hollywood films, and it was from her that Dita developed a fascination with the actresses of that day, especially Betty Grable, an actress that she frequently cites as her favorite. She was classically trained as a ballet dancer from age five, and danced solo at age thirteen for a local ballet company. Though she originally wanted to be a ballerina, Von Teese states that "By 15 I was as good as I’d ever be". She was later to incorporate this element into her burlesque shows, where she frequently goes en pointe. At age twelve she moved from Michigan to Orange County, California with her parents and her two sisters. Shortly after, her father left her mother. She later re-married. As a teenager, Von Teese's mother took her to buy her first bra, made from plain white cotton, and gave her a plastic egg containing a pair of wrinkly, flesh-coloured tights. Von Teese says she was disappointed as she had been hoping to receive beautiful lacy garments and stockings, of the type she had glimpsed in her father's Playboy magazines. This fuelled her passion for lingerie. She worked in a lingerie store as a salesgirl when she was fifteen, and eventually as a buyer. This was where she got her first corset. In college Von Teese studied historic costuming and aspired to work as a stylist for period films. She is a trained costume designer. Von Teese began her career in a local strip club when she was nineteen. Disappointed with the lack originality in all the other strippers' acts, Von Teese created a vintage-inspired look, with bee-hive hairstyle and elbow-length gloves, confusing and fascinating the clientele. She later became a fetish model and finally a burlesque star. Her retro pin-up look, frequently emulating Bettie Page in photo shoots, set her apart from most other fetish models. Her official website, often referred to as one of the first model sites on the internet, was created in 1992.[1] Von Teese was featured in Playboy magazine in 1999, 2001 and 2002. It was her Playboy cover in December of 2002 that gave her her last name. Originally known simply as "Dita", a tribute to silent film actress Dita Parlo,[2] Playboy insisted she use a last name. She picked "Von Treese" out of the phonebook, but it was misspelled "Von Teese". Dita, preferring the typo, adopted it as her name. Dita says that it is her appearances in Playboy that finally won her father's respect for her profession. Von Teese has been fond of wearing elaborate lingerie such as corsets and stockings from a young age, and in her words, "puts the tease back into striptease" with long, elaborate dance shows with props and characters, often inspired by 1930s and 1940s musicals and films. Some of her famous dances include a feather fan dance, inspired by burlesque dancer Sally Rand, and numbers involving a carousel horse, a giant powder compact, a filigree heart and a claw-toe bathtub with a working showerhead. Her signature show features a giant martini glass. She is also an actress. In her early years she appeared in fetish-related movies, such as Romancing Sara, Matter of Trust, in which she is billed as Heather Sweet, and also in a film by Andrew Blake: Pin Ups 2. Later, she appeared in more mainstream features, such as the 2005 short film, The Death of Salvador Dali, written by Delaney Bishop, which won best screenplay, best cinematography, and best Actress for Von Teese at recent festivals, including SXSW, Raindance Film Festival and Mill Valley Film Festival. She is also due to appear in the upcoming feature films Saint Francis and The Boom Boom Room, due in 2007. | __________________

Jimmy Hopper Returns - Long time Las Vegas headliner Jimmy Hopper is coming back for a couple nights in May. Seems like every few weeks, someone still asks about him and when/if he'll be playing again. He returns May 12 and 13, 2007 at the Suncoast Hotel Casino in Northwest Las Vegas. Tickets available by calling 702-636-7075 and more info about Jimmy and his current projects at http://www.jimmyhopper.com Jimmy Hopper Maybe you're looking for a little opera to lift your spirits. Maybe some rock and roll is what you're hankering for. Or maybe you just want to take a bit of a stroll down memory lane and relive the great oldies of the past. No matter what you are looking for, you will find all this and more at just one great venue. Sound impossible? Well check it out for yourself by getting yourself tickets to see the amazing Jimmy Hopper live in concert. He is an entire radio all bundled into one person, with a variety of stations and genres to choose from.
Hopper has been hailed as the single greatest unknown performer in the United States of America. That's probably the best way to describe him. Hopper has been around the music industry for a long time now and it looks like he has been taking his time to hone and craft all his varied talents until they became perfect. Now he is one of the most sought after entertainers in the country with billings, tours and performances that extend all across America and all around the world.
Hopper's infatuation with music began very early, at the tender age of three. Even then, he became famous across his neighborhood for setting up performances for his siblings and neighborhood children. For his adoring audience, he would obligingly sing as loudly as he could and people would often remark that he would go on to be a singer one day.
He soon taught himself to play the guitar and was playing and singing away like a professional. By then the family had shifted to a military base in Hawaii and Hopper began playing in the teen clubs that abounded there. After high school he begrudgingly joined Business College but the call of music was too loud and persistent. He quit and began to teach himself to play the piano. To this day, Hopper has never taken a lesson for the instruments he plays but has consistently wowed the other musicians he has performed with by his talent and skill. __________________

Vegas on St Patricks and This March Madness Weekend
| Obviously, the main event this weekend is St Patrick's Day, which Las Vegas, with its plethora of Irish pubs and "any excuse for a party" attitude, likes to celebrate in true style. But if green beer isn't your thing, there's plenty of other stuff going on too, including the debut of the Palms' new music venue, The Pearl, Roseanne Barr at New York-New York, and, direct from its smash run in London's West End, Jerry Springer The Opera, performed concert-style, at the MGM. - Music/Comedy: Earth, Wind and Fire will be at the Luxor (03/08/07-03/17/07); Donny Osmond's at the Orleans (03/15/07-03/18/07); English Beat's at MBay's House of Blues (03/16/07), as is An Evening with Stephen Lynch (03/17/07); at the University Theatre it's Guttermouth, Happy Campers, and Betting on Tomorrow (03/16/07), plus and The Matches, Audrey Sessions, Narwhal, and The Cab (03/18/07); Rattle and Hum-Tribute to U2 will be at the Cannery (03/16/07); The Dan Band will be at the Hard Rock (03/16/07-03/18/07); Grammy-winners Evanescence open Pearl, the new concert venue at the Palms (03/17/07); KC & The Sunshine Band perform at the Tropicana (03/17/07); the Las Vegas Tenors will be at the Suncoast (03/17/07-03/18/07); and Rod Stewart's at the MGM (03/17/07); while comedy-wise, Jay Leno's back at the Mirage (3/16/07-03/17/07); Lewis Black's at the MGM (03/15/07-03/21/07); and Roseanne Barr's headlining at New York-New York (03/15/07-04/30/07)

BON JOVI AND TIGER WOODS REUNITE IN LAS VEGAS TO CELEBRATE 10 YEARS OF TIGER JAM
Rock Superstars Bon Jovi To Join Golf Legend Tiger Woods At Tiger Jam X Presented by AT&T May 26 at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS – Two powerhouses, Tiger Woods and Bon Jovi, will reunite for the 10th annual Tiger Jam, presented by AT&T Saturday, May 26, 2007, at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. Marking 10 years of unforgettable concerts, Tiger Jam X will also be a fitting tribute to the estimated 10 million young people Tiger Jam has helped by raising funds for the Tiger Woods Foundation.
A decade in the making, this celebration will begin with exclusive live and silent auctions and a gourmet dinner. Following the dinner and auctions, Woods will welcome Bon Jovi to the Mandalay Bay Events Center stage for what promises to be an amazing show.
“I am thrilled to mark 10 years of Tiger Jam with Bon Jovi,” Woods said. “We always welcome rock legends at Tiger Jam and having Bon Jovi headline is truly an honor. We have a lot to celebrate, so I know it will be an amazing night.”
Bon Jovi has remained one of rock’s biggest stars and has sold more than one hundred million albums worldwide. Flush with the success of their record-breaking world tour and multi-platinum album Have A Nice Day, Bon Jovi has completed a new album, LOST HIGHWAY, which will arrive in stores June 19th on Island Records/Mercury Nashville. “(You Want To) Make A Memory,” the first single from the new album, was blasted out to radio on Tuesday, March 20th. Still being a forefront in the music industry for over two decades, Bon Jovi recently won the 2007 Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocal and made history by becoming the first Rock & Roll Band to have a #1 hit on Billboard's Hot Country Chart in May of 2006.
Since it’s creation in 1998, Tiger Jam has raised more than $10 million for the Tiger Woods Foundation and select Las Vegas based charities through its sold-out performances and one-of-a-kind auction items. In 2006, a Meet & Greet with Sting in New York raised $65,000 and a putting lesson with Tiger Woods raised $155,000. Sponsorships are now available for this exclusive event.
Tickets to see Bon Jovi perform at Tiger Jam X, presented by AT&T, go on sale Saturday, March 24 at 10 a.m. Tickets for the concert will be available through Ticketmaster Charge-By-Phone lines at (702) 474-4000, at all Ticketmaster retail ticket centers, http://www.ticketmaster.com, and at the Mandalay Bay Events Center Box Office (702) 632-7580. Individual ticket prices start at $100. More information on Bon Jovi can be found at http://www.bonjovi.com and http://www.backstagejbj.com.
Tiger Jam was created by the Tiger Woods Foundation, an organization dedicated to empowering young people to reach their maximum potential. Proceeds from previous Tiger Jams have supported Child Haven, Center for Independent Living, Greater Las Vegas Inner City Games, Boys & Girls Club of Las Vegas, GRAMMY in the Schools and The VH1 Save the Music Foundation.
Established in 1996 by Tiger Woods and his father Earl, the Tiger Woods Foundation empowers young people to reach their highest potential through character development and educational programs. Specific program offerings from TWF include the 14-acre Tiger Woods Learning Center, a youth-education facility focused on helping young people make the connection between the classroom and a rewarding career, and Start Something, a nationwide character development program that boasts more than 4 million participants. Tomorrow just after midnight (that would be Saturday night, 3/31/07), you can meet the women from the topless Fantasy show and revue at Luxor.
They appear and will sign autographs at Ivan Kane's Forty Deuce at sister casino Mandalay Bay (a hop, skip, and a tram ride away) and will hand out free show tickets (valued at $45), calendars, and items of clothing (ahem). The Fantasy girls even have their own risque online slot machine. You get 50 spins to score as high as you can, with top scores placed on their leaderboard. The bonus round has one of the girls strutting toward us on stage and lifting her skirt if she has one.

Le Rêve Theater Reopens
| A month after it closed for renovations, Wynn Las Vegas' Le Rêve Theater reopens today. Not only has the showroom been completely refurnished and reupholstered, but almost 500 seats have also been removed for a more intimate viewing experience. "LE RÊVE" THEATER AT WYNN LAS VEGAS REOPENS ON APRIL 5Theater Experience Evolves with Environmental Redesign and Introduction of VIP Indulgence PackageLAS VEGAS (April 5, 2007) /PRNewswire/ — With the evocative spectacle, "Le Rêve" (The Dream), Wynn Las Vegas has redefined both the traditional theatrical experience as well as the place in which it occurs. Inspired by the casual elegance of the resort it calls home, the "Le Rêve" Theater environment has been completely remodeled with a warmer palate, the most luxurious seats on the Las Vegas Strip and a VIP Indulgence Package complete with champagne bottle service and behind-the-scenes video monitors. The redesign of the "Le Rêve" Theater started minutes after the last show on March 5 and took over 200 workers and 30 days to complete. Designed by Mark Fisher and Roger Thomas, the extensive project included repainting the theater, recovering the walls, installing entirely new custom-made seating and flooring and creating the exclusive Champagne Circle area. The theater went from 2087 seats to 1606, providing additional room for guests and a more intimate theatrical experience. The surroundings are now soft and warm with rhythmic decorative flourishes inspired by Art Nouveau floral motifs. Luxe fabrics, plush chairs and a warm blend of cocoa, bronze and deep reds complete the feeling of elegance and style. For those craving the ultimate in luxury, the new VIP Indulgence Package offers an evening of extravagance with complimentary Perrier-Jouët champagne bottle service; chocolate covered strawberries; generously-scaled lounge seating with plenty of leg room; and video monitors providing up-close imagery and behind-the-scenes glimpses during the show. Package holders will experience the prestige of exclusive opportunities at Wynn Las Vegas with a "Privileged Access" pass for dining and entertainment on the day of the performance. The VIP Indulgence Package is generously priced $159 per person and is limited to less than 100 seats per show. "Le Rêve" offers breathtaking performances in an intimate aqua theater in-the-round. With seats no more than 12 rows from the stage, the theater provides an intimate setting which allows the audience to escape reality and let their provoked imagination lead the way. The show features aerial acrobatics, provocative choreography and artistic athleticism. Live music and elaborate special effects immerse the audience into a world of fantasy, adventure and intrigue. "Le Rêve" was created by DRAGONE, whose signature brand of visually stunning and innovative entertainment is at the core of the production. Ticket prices are $99 (Splash Zone), $119 (Premium Seating) and $159 (VIP Indulgence Package). The new show schedule is 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Monday and Thursday; 8:30 p.m. on Friday; and 8:00 p.m. and 10:30 on Saturday.
