Of all the sports books in Las Vegas, which would you expect to offer the best odds on parlay bets this coming football season. Palms? Caesars? Hilton? Nope, it's North Las Vegas' little Jerry's Nugget, which, according to LV Sun columnist Jeff Haney's annual comparison, easily outpays the big guys.
In fact, Jerry's offers the best parlay payouts in every category compared by Haney, from a 2-teamer to an 8-teamer.
For example, whereas no other sports book in Las Vegas pays better than 13-5 for a 2-team parlay, Jerry's pays 13.5-5 -- a significant difference.

Read his piece below:

Veterans of Las Vegas sports betting know the same wager can yield varying, sometimes significantly different, payouts depending on where it's placed.
That's certainly the case in football parlays, the popular form of wagering in which gamblers choose two or more games from the board and combine them into a single bet. All (or both) of the picks in the parlay must win against the point spread for the parlay to be successful.
If you're a parlay player in Las Vegas, it's important to your bankroll that you bet at a sports book that offers strong payout odds.
In the current football parlay sweepstakes, Jerry's Nugget emerges as the clear winner, offering bettors excellent odds across the board.
On two-team parlays, Jerry's Nugget pays 13 1/2-5, exceeding the standard odds of 13-5 at other Las Vegas properties.
On three-teamers, Jerry's Nugget pays 6 1/2-1, beating the industry standard of 6-1.
On four-teamers, Jerry's Nugget pays 13-1, also tops in Las Vegas. The Stratosphere/Arizona Charlie's properties and Poker Palace come close at 12-1 on four-teamers.
It's regrettable, however, that a dismal price of 10-1 remains the most common payout in Las Vegas on four-team parlays. A four-team parlay paying off at 10-1 affords the house, or casino, an estimated edge of 31 percent, making it one of the worst wagers in the realm of legal, regulated gambling. (Usually when the house advantage is that massive, it's on a long-shot prop that carries the promise of a "big score.")
Jerry's Nugget also offers the best five-team parlays in Las Vegas, paying out at 26-1.
Promotional material issued by Jerry's Nugget accurately spotlights the big difference in the bottom line its parlay odds can mean for bettors. Using a five-teamer as an example, it states: "If you placed a $100 bet on a 5-team parlay at Jerry's Nugget and your bet was a winner you would take home up to $600 more cash than you would get anywhere else."
Including the original stake of $100, the total payout on a five-teamer at 26-1 is $2,700 at Jerry's Nugget. That compares with a payout of $2,200 at Station Casinos properties (odds of 21-1) or $2,100 at Boyd/Coast or Harrah's joints (odds of 20-1) according to the Jerry's Nugget promo, which calls out those competitors by name.
Indeed, those 20-1 odds on five-teamers are the worst in town, but unfortunately the most common. You can do a little better than that at the Stratosphere/Arizona Charlie's properties (24-1) or Poker Palace (23-1).
Odds of 47-1 on six-team parlays are available at Cal-Neva joints as well as Jerry's Nugget. A price of 40-1 on six-teamers (ugh) is the worst in town, but again also the most widespread number. The Stratosphere properties and Poker Palace check in at 45-1, with Leroy's at 44-1.
Jerry's Nugget and Cal-Neva are also the best bets for seven-team parlays (92-1) and eight-team parlays (180-1). Leroy's comes close at 88-1 on seven-teamers and 175-1 on eight-teamers. Avoid the 140-1 on eight-teamers available at several joints. At 140-1, an eight-team parlay affords the house an estimated edge of 45 percent. Also avoid the 125-1 on eight-teamers at the Palms (estimated house edge: 50.8 percent). Go ahead and shoot for the big score, but be sure to play at one of the books paying 180-1.
As the promo for Jerry's Nugget correctly points out, again picking on a specific competitor: "Coast Casinos doesn't even offer 7- or 8-teamers!" (In fairness, several other casino properties don't offer them either.)
I applaud the competitive nature of this message from Jerry's. It contains an implicit challenge to rivals to improve the parlay odds and the sports betting options they offer to customers. It shows a willingness to shake up the Las Vegas sports betting scene, a business that too often feels behind the times, lacking in innovative spirit and marked by ennui.
Oh, and the exclamation point is a nice touch.

Hat Tip Jeff Haney

Welcome to our pro football season contest!

How does it work?

Each week you pick the winner for each game up to 15 minutes before it is scheduled to start. We throw out your 4 worst weeks so only your best 17 weeks count toward your overall score.

Can I still play if the season has already started?

Yes. Your picks going forward will be counted toward your score. We throw out your 4 worst weeks so the top 17 weeks count toward your overall score. If you start before week 5 you'll be fine. If you start after week 5 you'll be behind the others in terms of the overall season, but you could still win a prize for an individual week.

What if I don't pick a week?

If you don't make a pick the computer will select the most picked teams for you.

Are there prizes?

Yes. Weekly Prizes.

Can I play with a "private group" of friends and family?

Yes. After you register and log in, just click on "My Private Groups" which will appear in the upper-left hand corner of the page. After the page loads, click on "Create a Private Group" and follow the instructions.

BAR LINE UP FOR A NEW NFL SEASON 2009-2010

Local bars compete to win over fans with food and drink specials, giveaways

So the economy is looking sadder than the Washington Redskins after their 1940 NFL championship game beat down (a 73-0 loss to the Bears).

So the prospects for a quick economic recovery seem less likely than finding a photo of Tom Landry belly laughing.

So life in America circa 2008 is threatening to become more anticlimactic than a tie in overtime.

At least we have football and, whatever else is eroding the fringes of our collective psyche, we'll at least be able to devote the next few months to losing ourselves in the incongruous beauty of massively grown men playing a child's game for ungodly sums of money.

To help you plan out this season's pigskin pilgrimages, the Review-Journal again offers this list of Southern Nevada bars, taverns and restaurants that cater to fans of specific NFL teams.

This year's roster includes 55 establishments, but don't blame us if your favorite bar or team isn't included. This list is based solely on calls received from bar owners or managers, and if your favorite isn't here, it's because they fumbled by not calling us or not calling us by the deadline, or because your bar simply doesn't fit our requirements.

Having gotten that off our chest, this year's roster of MIA teams consists of the Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans.

However, if your team is listed here, the proprietors of these bars have promised to show every game their teams play and to show no other games while their teams' games are on. (We're confident that, as always, you'll let us know if they go back on their word.)

And now, fans and fanettes, let's all prepare to revel in the most wonderful season on the sporting calendar.

A Score Card for Sports Bars

This Lineup Delivers Some Heavy Hitters from College to Pro

Las Vegas is clearly in a league of its own. But when autumn rolls around, Sin City, like the rest of the nation, is swept up in the excitement generated by the Major League Baseball playoffs, the National Football League and college football. As the
Action on the gridiron kicks off and the pennant races come down to the wire, the activity heats up at the sportsbooks, as well as in the sports lounges.

Here is a rundown on some of the hottest places to eat, drink and root for the old ball team.

40/40 SPORTS LOUNGE
Vegas’ newest sports bar and lounge is the latest in a string of upscale sports-themed clubs owned by showbiz mogul Jay-Z. You never know when you might spot the hip-hop artist himself or his celebrity friends Alex Rodriguez or LeBron James on the premises at this Palazzo hot spot. The club’s centerpiece is The Bleachers, an amphitheater where 125 plush seats look out onto a gargantuan 120-square-foot TV screen; 85 more plasma TVs are scattered throughout the club, which has five bi-level bars, five VIP suites and an outdoor terrace right on the Strip.

ESPN ZONE
The most interactive experience can be found at ESPN Zone in New York-New York, another multicity sports-themed operation. Its two-story Las Vegas venue is tricked out with all sorts of high-tech gadgetry. With an early opening time of 10:30 a.m. And more than 165 TV monitors scattered throughout — including in the HD Studio Grill, the SportsCenter Bar and even the restrooms — sports junkies won’t miss a second of the action.

The Screening Room dominates, with two 14-foot wide HD screens and a dozen 36-inch video monitors for multigame viewing, plus direct audio control in booths and free wireless Internet access for getting updated statistics and managing fantasy teams.

If you get bored watching TV, the Sports Arena is an arcade housing 75 games and attractions, some of them proprietary to ESPN Zone.

BLONDIE’S SPORTS BAR & GRILL AND HAWAIIAN TROPIC ZONE
Blondie’s is more of a typical neighborhood sports bar with a bargain proposition unusual for Las Vegas: Its daily happy hour (4 to 6 p.m.) offers all-you-can-drink draft beers for $10. Other promotions include all-you-can- drink wells and drafts for $10 on Tuesdays from 9.30 till close and Beer Pong contests on Thursdays with a prize worth $500. The restaurant carries multiple games on its 43 plasma and big-screen televisions.

Also located in the Miracle Mile Shoppes at Planet Hollywood is Hawaiian Tropic Zone, which sometimes hosts public viewing parties sponsored by major sports industry players and televises major sports events on its state-of-the-art video wall.

MONTE CARLO BREW PUB

A favorite among locals as well as tourists, the Brew Pub has 38 flat-screen and three big-screen TVs, as well as a 10-by-10 foot projection screen for watching games. When the game’s not the thing, the pub features a piano bar and live bands, usually on weekends.

SPORTS DELUXE

Tucked away behind the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino’s sportsbook, the Sports Deluxe is an intimate, dimly lit sports bar that is much less frenetic than the property’s other watering holes. Plush leather U-shaped booths are equipped with their own personal mini-TVs, while a bank of HD plasma TVs provides the bigger picture.

PETE & SHORTY’S
Also adjacent to a sportsbook, this one at Hooters Casino Hotel, Pete & Shorty’s is modeled after a typical small-town tavern and promotes a relaxed, neighborly atmosphere. Patrons watch sporting events on 24 42-inch plasma TVs — when not being distracted by Hooters girls.

Chef Emeril Lagasse to Open "Lagasse's Stadium" at The Palazzo Las Vegas

Chef Emeril Lagasse and The Palazzo today announced Lagasse’s Stadium – a ground-breaking new place to dine, watch and play – opening this fall at The Palazzo Resort-Hotel-Casino. Sports fans will be in the center of the action while enjoying Chef Emeril’s world-famous cuisine and warm hospitality in this new state-of-the-art venue.

Inspired by two of Chef Emeril’s lifelong passions – cooking and sports – Lagasse’s Stadium marks a new dining standard for a sports and entertainment venue. Custom sports viewing walls consisting of nearly 100 high definition screens will provide unprecedented access to nearly every major college and professional sporting event, including must-see bowl games, track races, tournaments, and championship match-ups.

Lagasse’s Stadium will be Lagasse’s third project with The Palazzo and adjoining Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino. The other two endeavors include the acclaimed Delmonico Steakhouse at The Venetian and Table 10 at The Palazzo.

“As a long-time season ticket holder, on big game days you’ll find me tailgating with friends and supporting my favorite teams,” says Emeril Lagasse. “I’m happy to team up again with our friends at The Palazzo to create the ultimate sports establishment. At Stadium, we’ll be serving serious food for serious fans.”

There will be plenty of culinary action to keep fans engaged, even on non-game days, redefining how guests eat, drink and root for their favorite teams. The menu will feature Lagasse’s play on game-day favorites; a few of Emeril’s “New Orleans” style dishes, plus some surprising re-inventions of American classics.

“Lagasse’s Stadium will be the ultimate sports bar and restaurant on The Strip,” said Rob Goldstein, president and COO of The Palazzo and The Venetian. “With its accessible location and unique design it will provide sports enthusiasts a great location to kick- back, relax, and enjoy great food and beverages while watching their favorite sporting games and highlights on the big screens.”

Renovation of the 24,000-square-foot space, formerly occupied by The Sportsbook Bar & Grill, began in June. The club also features premier access to a street level outdoor space bordering Las Vegas Boulevard. Spectators can enjoy impressive views of The Palazzo and the Las Vegas Strip while dining in a unique open-air setting. The location will feature lounge and stadium-style seating, and luxury boxes for exclusive private events.

Football Field Report

Here's a report from Venetian/Palazzo. Lagasse's Stadium is a monster, with big screens and big crowds, but be prepared to pay $6.50 per beer.

Oooph!

Upstairs at First Food, the scene's not the same, but you can get a Bloody Mary with a Slim Jim garnish for $7.
