Wynn Las Vegas is an eyeful World's most expensive casino-resort -- at $2.7 billion -- impresses visitors in a city not shy about going over the top. Las Vegas -- The casino mogul who brought to this desert oasis such over-the-top hotels as the Mirage and Bellagio kicked it up another notch just after midnight Wednesday with the opening of the world's most expensive casino resort, a $2.7 billion behemoth that had guests' mouths agape as they filed through an ornate front hallway bedecked with more than 10,000 flowers. Thousands rushed into the Wynn Las Vegas as its creator, Steve Wynn, personally stood at the entrance shaking hands, posing for pictures and thanking the rich and the common folk alike for coming to witness what Wynn has modestly likened to the Great Pyramids of Egypt. "Oh my, God!" gasped Georgina Fields, 34, of Manchester, N.H., who had waited in line for four hours. "Just look at the molding, the tile, everything. " Even by Las Vegas' larger-than-life standards, the scale of the curved, copper-colored 49-story structure attains new heights of sorts. A 180-foot man-made mountain covered with full-grown Aleppo pine trees looms like a regiment of guards blocking the hotel's entrance from the street, forcing visitors to come inside to see, for instance, the 100 parasol light fixtures hanging from the ceiling that mechanically dance up and down to music. The mountain also provides the backdrop for a series of what Wynn calls "experiences" such as a water-and-light show, a 70-foot waterfall and a 3-acre lake. "The idea of this building was to create extended spaces, to bring the outdoors inside and to transport the guest into another realm," said spokeswoman Denise Randazzo. Such ambition doesn't come cheap. The 217-acre property is more than twice as expensive as the proposed 1, 776-foot Freedom Tower to be built on the site of the World Trade Center disaster, and just under the $3 billion price tag of the Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai -- which, among other services, squires guests to a hotel restaurant via submarine. The cost to build the 2,716 rooms -- minimum size 630 square feet and many appointed with multiple flat-screen LCD televisions -- was $1 million each. That eclipses the previous world record of $775,000 per room at the Grand Wailea Resort in Maui, Hawaii. Naturally, there's an 18-hole golf course -- designed by Wynn and famed golf course architect Tom Fazio -- plus the only Manolo Blahnik shoe store outside Manhattan, a Ferrari-Maserati dealership and 18 restaurants. Some of Wynn's own collection -- including paintings by Picasso, Cezanne, Gauguin, Vermeer and Rembrandt -- is part of the hotel's art gallery. Wynn is no stranger to such extravagance. He opened the Mirage in 1989 with a waterfall that transforms into a volcano every 15 minutes along the sidewalk in front of the hotel. Treasure Island opened four years later with a fiery live-action pirate show out front that is performed every 90 minutes. Among the entertainment at uber-elegant Bellagio is a mammoth dancing fountain show on a 9-acre lake. But with the actual getting inside the hotel posing something of an obstacle course, and the prices being on the luxurious side -- the minimum room price is approximately $230 a night -- some observers wonder how much everyday foot traffic the hotel will attract. "Mr. and Mrs. Omaha will walk in and say, 'OK, fine.' Then, they're going to say, I can't afford the $7 ice cream," said Anthony Curtis, publisher of the Las Vegas Adviser newsletter. "And they'll leave." Perhaps, but not Thursday, when most of those present were determined to be enthralled. "I come to every casino opening," says Debra York, 40, from San Mateo. "I just love Vegas, and I come here all the time. All I can say is that I want to stay at the Wynn now. I'll save up some money -- or maybe I'll win some!" Wynn, 63, who is known to micromanage his properties in matters great and small, and whose name is on many of the slot machines in the hotel's casino, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Wednesday that his latest creation is "more complex than any other structure in the history of the world." Not everyone was quite as impressed. Rick Garman, who operates a local Web site, Vegas4Visitors.com, wondered what Wynn spent $2.7 billion on. "It's nice. It's pretty," said Gorman. But I was not blown away. Everybody I spoke to would say, 'It's nice,' but that was it. If my expectations were too high, then Steve Wynn set them too high." But Wynn doesn't appear worried. He's currently working on the $700 million Wynn Macau in Macau, China, and building the Encore, a $1.4 billion hotel-casino scheduled to open right next door to the Wynn Las Vegas in 2008. Even Mother Nature wanted to "charge up" Las Vegas at the Wynn Hotel/casino while it was under construction proving the Wynn Las Vegas is the "hottest" place on the Strip. __________________

Las Vegas: Wynn looking to up Encore by 1,000 rooms 27 June 2005
LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- As reported by the Reno Gazette-Journal: "Steve Wynn's ambitious plans for the proposed $1.4 billion Encore hotel on the Las Vegas Strip have grown by more than 1,000 hotel rooms, while owners of the Nevada Palace casino on the Boulder Strip want to demolish and replace it with a new gaming and entertainment complex. "Wynn, the Wynn Resorts Ltd. chief, is seeking to build the Encore resort next door to his company's $2.7 billion Wynn Las Vegas resort that opened in April. He wants to increase guest rooms and suites at the Encore from the 1,757 he requested originally to 2,770, according to records released by Clark County last week. "The architecture of Encore, featuring a 61-story tower, would be similar to Wynn Las Vegas, with tinted bronze glass and beige banding. Encore would have 50,000 square feet of casino area, showrooms and live entertainment, plus 100,000 square feet of shopping, indoor and outdoor dining and convention space. "...Low-rise buildings, with metal roofing and domes, would connect the project to the Wynn Las Vegas hotel, according to the plans..." __________________

Wynn Resorts opens with highest room rates on the Las Vegas Strip After opening April 28 with a blistering first five weeks, the $2.7 billion Wynn Las Vegas megaresort late Monday reported quarterly results that are more in line with what analysts have been expecting. Some experts say they expect profit to widen in the coming months as the resort begins to attract a loyal following. Wynn Las Vegas reported a loss of $35.2 million in its first 64 days of operation after paying $43.4 million in pre-opening costs. Excluding those costs, the megaresort posted $8.2 million in profit in the second quarter ended June 30. The property's 8 cents per share in profit was in line with analysts' estimates. Casino companies typically account separately for pre-opening costs, which are costs incurred before a property is operational. Parent company Wynn Resorts Ltd. said the resort generated $201.1 million in revenue, including promotional expenses. That's about $3.1 million in revenue per day and less than the $4.1 million daily average the resort reported over its first 34 days of operation. "As we anticipated after month 1, opening weeks had above-average volume which lowered to a more normalized rate in month 2," UBS Securities stock analyst Robin Farley said in a research note today. Casino revenue was $98.7 million, or about 43 percent of the property's $226.1 million in gross revenue. Non-casino revenue such as rooms, retail, food and beverage was $127.3 million or 56 percent of total revenue. The slots won an average of $304 per day from customers in the first month and $238 in the second month, still better than expected, Farley said. Tables won an average of $9,200 in the first month and $4,700 in month 2, just below estimates, she said. Overall, casino revenue in the first month was twice what was expected but in June was closer to expectations, she said. The occupancy rate at Wynn Las Vegas was about 90 percent and the average daily room rate was $284. In a statement, Chief Executive Steve Wynn said the property's revenue across various departments has been "outstanding" so far and that the property will focus on raising profit margins in the coming months. "We deliberately and substantially overstaffed in order to offset our expected initial disadvantages in productivity," Wynn said. "We had more than 9,000 employees working with approximately 58 newly integrated operating systems." Deutsche Bank Securities bond analyst Andrew Zarnett said the results "raise the bar" for resorts in Las Vegas. In a research note Monday, Zarnett said room rates at Wynn Las Vegas easily topped the Venetian resort's average daily rate of $220 in 2004. "We believe that as the property improves service and customers gain a greater appreciation of the Wynn experience versus its competitors (rates) and occupancy will continue to rise," he said. The company broke ground on its Wynn Macau resort in June 2004 and is still on track to open it in September 2006. The majority of architectural and structural work is done on the resort, with 23 floors complete. Shares of Wynn Resorts fell nearly 4 percent in midmorning trading today to $54.44 per share.

PowerCold Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: PWCL) announced today an agreement with Park Place Properties, LLC to provide a turnkey HVAC system including engineering, plumbing and fire sprinkler designed package for the new five-story 209-room Wingate Inn and Suites in Las Vegas, Nevada. The $2.8 million project will utilize PowerCold's proprietary HVAC central system, including its patented closed loop evaporative condensers. Another new hotel project for $2.4 million (news release dated 7.19.05), the Wingate Inn and Suites in Henderson, Nevada is designed with PowerCold's proprietary central HVAC system and a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) system to supply space heating, hot water, cooling and electric power to the facility. The unique PowerCold system recycles the hotel exhaust air and transfers the heating or cooling to the incoming outside air through its BreezeMaster(TM) plastic evaporative coolers. The individual guest rooms and common areas are furnished with clean, fresh air. This system reduces the need for approximately 12 to 15 tons of air conditioning equipment for the hotel. The Department of Energy is granting the funding for the analysis of the CHP project. The facility is expected to be one of the most energy-efficient hotels ever built in the U.S. The PowerCold central system has been utilized in other Wingate Inn Hotel projects including the Wingate Inn, Bozeman, MT and the Wingate Inn and Suites, Greenwood Village, CO. The Bozeman Wingate earned the ENERGY STAR label for commercial buildings in 2003 and the ENERGY STAR small business award in 2004. The Greenwood Village Wingate opened just over a year ago and is expected to achieve similar energy savings and ENERGY STAR certification. Robert Yoho, President of PowerCold ComfortAir Solutions, Inc. commented, "PowerCold provides innovative technologies and products for the hospitality industry. As an HVAC solutions-based provider, our competitive advantage lies in our ability to provide a healthy indoor air environment with systems that are both energy efficient and cost effective." PowerCold ComfortAir Solutions, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of PowerCold Corporation, offers high efficiency new and retrofit HVAC systems for commercial buildings including major hotel chains, national restaurant and retail chain stores, extended care facilities and office buildings. Steve Wynn has already announced plans to add on to his resort. What's being called "Encore" will be built to the north of the current tower, and he still has lots of land left for other projects even without taking the golf course. So is the condo craze going to spread to Wynn property? Anchor Gary Waddell asked him about that in an exclusive interview. Steve Wynn said, "These condos on the Strip are being purchased by people who are not necessarily ever planning to live in Las Vegas. They all think they're going to flip 'em for a profit. They'll put a down payment in and they'll sell them to someone else for a profit, like stock goes up -- like an IPO. It's a nice thought. I have my doubts about this. I'm a little skeptical. Like most people, I think many of these projects will not be built." So, what about the guy who's building two high-rise condos right across the street from Wynn Las Vegas? Dozens of these projects are on the drawing board, including one to be built on property right across the street from the Wynn resort. The builder -- Donald Trump -- is teamed up with Frontier owner Phil Ruffin. Wynn talked about why he thinks Trump picked this project. "Well, it's what he thought was affordable and safe. Now if he makes some money, and he appears to be making a handful with Phil, the property belongs to Ruffin, and Phil just gave Donald enough to do -- one or two of those buildings -- but they're set back 300 or so feet from the Strip, so all the Strip frontage is preserved." Wynn is friends with Trump and encouraged him to come to Las Vegas. He thinks Trump is made for Las Vegas. "Trump is the kind of guy who loves excitement. He thrives on the limelight like no man ever before has thrived. This man can attract attention in a way that movie actors are jealous of. It's a gift he's got. I've never seen anyone create more thunder than Donald Trump than just walking around." The next big project for Steve Wynn is his hotel casino in Macau. While the Chinese are waiting to visit Las Vegas, they'll be able to sample of a little bit of Las Vegas at home. Las Vegas style gaming is coming to the city of Macau. One of the operators selected by the Chinese government to build a hotel casino is Steve Wynn. Wynn says it was an opportunity he couldn't pass up. Gaming is already going strong in Macau, but he says they haven't seen anything yet. "Wynn Macau will be the first destination hotel in Macau. There's been an awful law about the growth in Macau and the results of various casinos including my neighbors, but it's very important for people to understand that the real game hasn't come to town yet. The big time stuff. What you're seeing over there is almost a warm-up. When we get open and when MGM opens their hotel, the real guys'll be there, the real serious players." Wynn says China is probably the most exciting market in the world. He's planning to spend more than a billion dollars on the resort there. Terror bombings around the world have people who run hotels a little jumpy these days. Las Vegas hotels have been taking extra precautions for several years increasing security, screening cars and checking luggage. Security systems in the hotels are being beefed up, and in newer hotels changes have been made simply because of security. Some of the changes aren't things you'd expect. Steve Wynn talked about one of them. "I never thought to build kennels for German shepherds and dogs that sniff that were a year in training in Europe. I never had to do this before. I've got 12 guys, 8 dogs. We've got showers and coolers for their food and dog runs. 'Cause we want the little puppies to be happy because I'm an animal nut. We're sniffing all the baggage. Believe me, I wasn't thinking of a canine center when I was designing Bellagio and Mirage." Wynn says security at his hotel is a very high priority. __________________

Tanks featuring live fish entice diners into Wing Lei at Wynn

Wing Lei Chinese restaurant at Wynn Las Vegas features a rare Botero sculpture outside the dining room window.
| When executive chef Richard Chen says the fish is fresh at the Wing Lei Chinese restaurant at Wynn Las Vegas, 3131 Las Vegas Blvd. South, he isn't hyping the menu. Upon ordering, say, spotted grouper, the fish is taken -- live -- from one of the restaurant's five fish tanks, then it's killed and gutted and prepared for the table. "When food is fresh, you don't have to do much to bring out the flavor," says Chen, who previously was chef de cuisine and manager of Shanghai Terrace at The Peninsula Chicago. "It's very important to get the best ingredients" because the food has to "meet the high expectations" of customers. Wing Lei offers diners authentic Chinese cuisine as well as more American-style Chinese food, plus Chen's own signature menu and a five-course Peking duck menu. Designed by Jacques Garcia, the restaurant features a rare Botero sculpture just on the other side of the dining room window. The large black sculpture of a woman is flanked by 100-year-old pomegranate trees. There are two private dining rooms, each seating 12 to 14 people, a 40-seat semiprivate room and a 12-seat bar. Overall, the restaurant seats 140. Dinner is served from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. daily. Reservations are highly recommended by calling 770-3388. Starters: Peking duck salad with mesclun lettuce, almond slivers, orange and truffle vinaigrette ($14); pan grilled pot stickers with pork, Chinese chives and bamboo shoots ($12); crispy shrimp toast with black and white sesame seeds ($16); vegetable spring roll with sweet and sour sauce ($12); stir-fried minced squab with water chestnuts and mushrooms in a lettuce cup ($14); and shredded chicken salad with cold sesame noodles ($14). Soups: Chicken won ton soup ($10); classic hot and sour soup ($10); and seafood and sizzling rice soup ($12). Entrees: Szechuan chili prawns with wok-fried choy sum, garlic and hot soy bean sauce ($36); prawns with black beans, asparagus, bell peppers, onions and mushrooms ($36); wok-fried Cantonese Maine lobster with bok choy, winter bamboo and scallop chili sauce ($65); steamed Chilean sea bass with Shanghai baby bok choy, tofu, mushrooms and soya ginger broth ($32); Kung pao chicken with roasted peanuts, bell peppers, scallions, garlic and ginger chili sauce ($28); mu shu pork with julienned bamboo, mushrooms, savoy cabbage and Mandarin pancake ($28); moo goo gai pan with chicken, chantrelle mushrooms, snow peas and ginger oyster sauce ($26); and Hunan spicy lamb with lamb loin, leeks, pepper, asparagus, mushroom and garlic chili sauce ($34). Menu items straight from the fish tank include Alaska geoduck clams ($40 per pound); Santa Barbara spotted prawns ($13 each); Australian spiny lobster ($77 per pound); Washington Dungeness crab ($50 each); and Australian coral cod ($99 per pound). Cantonese specialties include spicy sautè with wok-tossed sausage, calamari, pickled daikon and chili ($33); marinated drunken chicken with rice sheet noodles, cucumbers, thousand years egg and Sichuan sauce ($32); chilled jelly fish with light soy sauce, sesame oil and scallions ($13); and braised "live" goby with bitter melon and black bean sauce ($88). Extras: Five-course Peking duck menu with table-carved roasted duck, Peking duck salad, wild duck soup, wok-fried duck, pan-seared duck noodles and dessert ($78 per person, minimum of service for two), and chef Richard's signature dinner menu with tuna sashimi, pan-seared crab cake, shrimp won ton, lobster dan dan noodles, steamed stuffed poussin, braised veal shank and dessert sampler ($128 per person, minimum service for two). Desserts: Dark chocolate dome with vanilla bean sauce, roasted golden pineapple with rum raisin ice cream and ginger jus, Mandarin orange parfait with almond biscuit, Wing Lei fruit platter, and a selection of ice cream and sorbet ($12 each). __________________

Encore and Steve Wynn's mixed emotions about replacing historic golf course Steve Wynn is breaking ground on his $1.7 billion Encore resort on April 28, but the Strip developer says his streak of timing major events for that date - wife Elaine's birthday and the day in 2000 that Wynn bought the Desert Inn - will end with the Encore event. Wynn opened Wynn Las Vegas on the same day in 2005, but told me Friday that plans call for Encore to open in December 2007. "That's the best time to open," Wynn said of the traditionally slow month. "That way you start the year fresh, with New Year's, Chinese New Year and the Super Bowl ahead." Wynn continues to work on plans for the rest of the Desert Inn property that now serves as Wynn Las Vegas' high-priced golf course. The toughest part of closing the golf course and building on the site - aside from persuading Elaine to accept the temporary loss of their pastoral views from the Wynn Las Vegas villa they live in - will be the impact on the east side of the resort. The villas, a restaurant and a couple of meeting spaces now overlook the golf course's 18th hole. "That's going to be the tricky part," Wynn said of the stage between the closure of the golf course and the introduction of a new landscape, one that will have a large lake, a feature that will eventually be surrounded by additional hotels. "I'm still going to bed dreaming about the golf course, making it a park, a town - making it beautiful," he said. He soon plans to acquire the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce building that now occupies the southeast corner of the former Desert Inn block; Wynn Resorts workers already are occupying about half the building's space. Wynn also plans a mid-rise office building on land Wynn Resorts owns on the south side of Sands Avenue, at the intersection of Manhattan Street. Wynn Design and Development will take the bottom few floors of the building and he'll lease the top floors. Wynn was in Macau at the start of the month and is returning to the Chinese enclave again this week. He said construction and hiring at the $1.1 billion Wynn Macau is on pace and that the resort is still slated to open Sept. 5. __________________

Las Vegas Resort Encore Breaks Ground
The Wynn has changed the face of the northern part of Las Vegas Boulevard, and Friday Steve Wynn broke ground on his second tower for a new $1.4 billion resort. At the groundbreaking, Wynn didn't need flashy renderings or to brag about size of the new Encore Resort. He says it's about a small-town Las Vegas tradition that he learned when he was 25. "When people feel good and safe about the people they work for they have a whole different body language that gets translated to the customers," Wynn said. "There is a feeling of family." Keeping that feeling of family was a struggle as he ushered in the era of the mega resort in Las Vegas. Wynn said Encore is the right formula. "Trying to take the wonderful feeling that you get in a boutique hotel and do it for a lot of people at the same time and its worked," Wynn explained. "I think that made me nervous before we opened this hotel. I am not nervous about it anymore. Encore is going to exploit intimacy even more. The rooms are bigger, but the hotel is going to feel smaller. It is going to feel very personal." There will be thousands of rooms and it will cost $1.4 billion dollars, but that’s the price of intimacy he says. Casino floors will be separated from other activities with gardens and pools and at the push of a button he says outdoor activities will be in a climate controlled glass room. And this isn't the end. There’s plenty of room for it on the 240-acre site of the old Desert Inn. "We will probably be in construction on this great Desert Inn site probably for the rest of my life and that is gonna be great fun, creating jobs for people, creating opportunity, raising a little tax money and making a few bucks on the side ourselves maybe," Wynne said. The new is planned for opening between Christmas and New Years 2008. Construction is set to begin on Monday. __________________

Encore's pool will heat up the scene
Encore, the sister tower to Wynn Las Vegas, will feature a year-round indoor pool area with a retractable roof. Steve Wynn announced the latest addition to the city's sizzling party scene during last Friday's groundbreaking ceremony for Encore, the $1.74 billion, 2,054-room hotel-casino tower that opens in late 2008. Encore will become the second party venue with the pop-top feature -- the Palms' Fantasy Tower has a retractable roof on the Playboy Club. ALSO WYNN RELATED NEWS Wynn listed on Time's top 100
Steve Wynn is on the cover of Time magazine as one of world's 100 most influential individuals. The Time 100 issue, out this week, ranks Wynn among the "Builders & Titans" category -- businessmen known for their "innovation, grand plans, style and substance." A headline over Wynn's feature reads: "He Didn't Invent Las Vegas. He Just Makes It Work." "Steve Wynn, 64, is not only a great salesman of insane ideas and a clever real estate player but also the gaming industry's most brilliant designer," wrote Joel Stein. "The greatest creator of spectacle," according to Stein, launched Las Vegas' comeback in 1989 with the construction of The Mirage, the catalyst behind a sweeping building boom. Stein added that when people study the U.S. empire, in the next millennium, "they won't be looking at buildings created by Frank Lloyd Wright or Frank Gehry. They'll be looking at our temples of pleasure, the buildings where we packed in as much America as would fit. And, somehow, Steve Wynn has done it in a way we won't be ashamed of." Wynn will be in New York City on Monday to join many of the other Time 100 honorees, including Bono, George Clooney, Condoleezza Rice, Ang Lee, Matt Drudge and the Dixie Chicks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ MISSION IMPOSSIBLE It's a good thing Steve Wynn wasn't planning a birthday opening of Encore for his wife, Elaine. It would be impossible to top the birthday party he threw for her at last year's opening night of Wynn Las Vegas. After a dinner at Alex that was prepared by an all-universe lineup of star chefs (Paul Bocuse, Daniel Boulud, Alain Ducasse, Thomas Keller, Nobu Matsuhisa, Charlie Palmer, Charlie Potter, David Robbins and Alex Stratta), Elaine was treated to a dance with Hugh Jackman and a performance by her favorite singer, American opera star Renee Fleming, who sang from atop the "Hello Dolly" staircase at Alex. "What a way to open a restaurant," said Stratta, who somehow made his 5 a.m. appointment on NBC's "Today" show with Matt Lauer and Katie Couric. "No pressure at all," he said. __________________

Steve Wynn is spending $15.9 million to buy the right to amp up the WLV show Le Reve from its creator, Franco Dragone, who’s too busy to do it himself. Wynn has hired Moses Pendleton, artistic director of a surrealist dance company called MOMIX, to do the fine-tuning, such as adding visual effects like lasers, beefing up the choreography, and introducing more artists. "The baseline show," which cost $110 million to produce, "stays as is," according to a Dragone spokesperson. The revamp will be completed sometime in 2007. __________________

There’s a new game at the Wynn, called Double Fortune Baccarat. The dealer deals one had from two shoes and you can bet on either or both hands and place a side bet on the first eight cards. Payoffs include one pair from each shoe pays 5 to 1, two pairs on any shoe 20 to 1 and four pairs 100 to 1.
Double Fortune Baccarat
Last update: Feb 6, 2007 Double Fortune Baccarat is a baccarat variation I noticed at the Wynn on February 6, 2007. The game is played like conventional baccarat, except with two 8-deck shoes, a red one and a blue one. The dealers will deal a hand from each at the same time. Players may wager on the outcome of either or both shoes. In addition there are proposition bets on the outcome of both red and blue shoes. If one shoe runs out of cards before the other then the proposition bets will be off the board until both shoes have been exhausted. The odds on the banker, player, and tie bets are the same as in conventional baccarat. The only new material to evaluate are the two proposition bets. The first proposition bet is the Double Fortune Pairs. Only the first two cards of both banker and player hands are used to determine the outcome. The following return table shows a house edge of 3.45%. | Double Fortune Pairs - 8 Decks | | Event | Pays | Combinations | Probability | Return | | Four pairs | 100 | 1696070458757380 | 0.000031 | 0.003114 | | Three pairs | 20 | 84024398039482400 | 0.001543 | 0.030858 | | Two pairs on same game | 10 | 520415753751429000 | 0.009556 | 0.095562 | | One pair on each game | 5 | 1040655391031030000 | 0.019109 | 0.095546 | | One pair on either game | 2 | 12890861996165000000 | 0.236711 | 0.473422 | | No pairs | -1 | 39920593415543200000 | 0.73305 | -0.73305 | | Total | | 54458247024988900000 | 1 | -0.034546 |
The second proposition bet is the Double Fortune Ties. The following return table shows a house edge of 4.51%. | Double Fortune Ties - 8 Decks | | Event | Pays | Combinations | Probability | Return | | A tie of equal value on both games | 50 | 3.06954543145145E+28 | 0.001229 | 0.06143 | | A tie on each game | 25 | 1.9552599449902E+29 | 0.007826 | 0.195651 | | A tie on either game | 3 | 4.30230771890458E+30 | 0.172203 | 0.516608 | | No ties | -1 | 2.04554561528368E+31 | 0.818743 | -0.818743 | | Total | | 2.4983985320555E+31 | 1 | -0.045053 | __________________

No Video Poker Comps at the Wynn It's true, except for the sports bar, Wynn Las Vegas will not comp drinks for video poker players at its bars. This has been tried before -- by MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, and some non-casino locations. To date, it has not worked, since players have never stood for it. Why should they -- they can get comped while they play at any other place in town. __________________

Wynn Las Vegas available for phone wagering9 January 2008
LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- As reported by the Thoroughbed Times: "One Las Vegas race book has started accepting phone account wagers on Thoroughbred races. "The race book at Wynn Las Vegas accepted its first out-of-state wager in December. While the state's gaming control board and gaming commission approved such wagers in 2005, Wynn is the first Nevada race book to add interstate wagering. Wynn currently has just one out-of-state customer. "...Wynn accepts only phone wagers as current Nevada law does not allow Internet account wagering. "...Wynn can accept wagers from players in Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, and Wyoming..." __________________

Encore Gets Go-ahead Steve Wynn's Encore resort has received some of the certificates of occupancy it needs in order to open on schedule. Interestingly, the RateVegas.com blog ("Two Way Hard Three") reports that the standard gala opening may be forgone in favor of a post-opening bash on Jan. 27, 2007 -- Wynn's birthday. Encore is currently taking reservations for hotel nights from Jan. 12 onwards, starting at $229/night.

Reply with quote | #30 | Correction on Wynn Gala Yesterday, (see post below) we reported that Steve Wynn is contemplating foregoing a gala opening of Encore in favor of a big bash on his birthday, roughly one month later. Trouble is, we reported that "Jan. 27, 2007" would be the day of Wynn's party. Talk about going back in time............. "insert hitting self on head for making this stupid mistake and begging for forgiveness" ............ the actual date for the birthday party at Encore would be Jan. 27, 2009.

Reply with quote | #31 | Encore's OPENING The great mystery is finally solved. It was known that Encore would open on December 22, but when on the 22nd seemed to be a heavily guarded secret (like many other things about what's inside that place). No pictures or cameras have been allowed inside Encore and wont be till Monday when it opens. Perhaps it was because they didn't know themselves. It looks like the official opening time will be 8 PM. We're fairly confident, but will correct if it turns out this is not the time.

XS Nightclub With his latest nightclub, Steve Wynn offers up the ultimate Las Vegas experience. Brainstorming sessions are nothing new to Steve Wynn; his days are often filled with them, his outer office looking like an endless parade of executives from different teams, offering up ideas to paint the ultimate portrait of the Wynn resort experience. It was during such a meeting last year, while Encore was still under construction, when one conversation changed the face of the Las Vegas nightclub scene.
“We were sitting around the conference table—Victor Drai, the Waits brothers and myself,” Wynn says, referring to Drai, then the co-owner of Tryst, the nightclub at Wynn, and Jesse and Cy Waits, Tryst’s managing partners. “These guys made Tryst the most successful nightclub on the planet, so it was time to talk about what we were going to do in Encore. What was the concept and name for this club? The best names are organic. At one point I said, ‘What happens in a nightclub? People behave excessively; it’s a place of excess.’” Wynn is fond of sketching out ideas, a notepad is never far from his reach, and in that instant he took a piece of paper and wrote down two letters: XS. “Steve’s goal from the start was to do something in nightclubs that never had been done before,” says Cy Waits, who with twin brother Jesse also serves as managing partner of XS. “XS is grand and over the top. It’s a bigger club, so there’s a bigger wow factor.” At 40,000 square feet, XS is one of the largest nightclubs in Las Vegas and “it’s the most luxurious by far,” says Jesse. “When you walk into XS and you’re presented with its design and energy, it takes your breath away.” XS is inspired by the curves of the human body, a notion that is apparent from the moment you enter, passing through a hallway in which beautiful male and female dancers’ torsos are sculpted in the walls in gold leaf, inviting you to join them in a dance. Once through this hallway, you find yourself at the top of the staircase with a panoramic view of the club, a mix of gold crocodile-embossed leather banquettes, mirrored mosaics, Murano-glass chandeliers, and concave female torsos in gold leaf above the gold-resin bar tops. Beyond the indoor space, the illuminated pool beckons with its island bar and 30 VIP cabanas. This combination has impacted how guests experience the club. “At the beginning of the night everyone tends to drift out to the pool area,” he says. “But as the night progresses and the energy builds, you want to be inside and part of the action on the dance floor.” Cy agrees. “Everyone definitely gravitates toward the pool first, but one of the great things about XS is that you have choices,” he says. “There are so many things to discover that you can make this experience exactly what you want it to be.” Saint Tropez comes to Las Vegas? Steve Wynn has long been a fan of the iconic spots found in the south of France, St. Tropez in particular--where Byblos, Cinquante-Cinq, and Nikki Beach have set the tone for Mediterranean revelry. It’s no accident that the vibe of XS reminds one of this; Wynn, however, is confident that he’s raised the bar, no pun intended, on the experience. “It’s the day-long club scene transitioning into the excitement of the night, but in Saint Tropez you have to travel all over town to enjoy it all; here, I’ve integrated everything at once,” Wynn says, pointing to the adjacent restaurant Botero, an elegant, modern steakhouse helmed by executive chef Mark LoRusso and also co-owned by Drai. When Encore opened in December, Botero quickly emerged as a hot spot for dinner, not only because of LoRusso’s imaginative cuisine, or for a view of the famed sculptor’s works of art; it’s also the close proximity to XS that inspires guests to linger over dinner before being lured to the club scene outside. With XS, Wynn once again has the most talked-about nightspot in Las Vegas on his hands. A line of eager clubgoers snakes down the hallway on a typical night. What’s the best way to guarantee a great evening? “It makes the most sense to book a table in advance, and being a guest of the hotel absolutely helps,” Cy advises, while Jesse’s tips include thinking about what you’re wearing, “we very much cater to an upscale crowd.” The fact that XS fully lives up to its name is a notion that pleases the man who wrote two letters down on a piece of notepaper. “A club’s success today is rooted in building a better mousetrap,” Wynn says with a smile. “And we’ve built the best mousetrap in town.” LOCATION Encore Las Vegas HOURS OF OPERATION Fri-Mon 10pm - 4am DRESS CODE Dress code is strictly enforced. No hats, oversized jeans, baggy clothing, or athletic wear. AGE RESTRICTION 21 years or older __________________
